sick kitty :-(

One of our kitties has been ill for about a month now. We took her to the vet about 3 weeks ago and they ran some tests and her liver enzymes were up, which indicated an infection. They ran the feline leukemia test as well as a diabetes test and both were negative. So, they hooked her up to an IV with fluids and such and gave us a round of antibiotics.

Over the next week she had good days and bad days. She was eating a little more, but we could tell she was getting dehydrated. She likes to drink out of the fountain that's beside the bed, so we tried to make sure it was running a lot.

So, after a week of antibiotics and she's still dehydrated and not eating much more than before, we took her back to the vet. She was a little jaundiced. They gave her another bag of fluids and a stronger antibiotic and drew more blood for more tests. That was on Monday.

Thursday night, I got a call from the vet. Our kitty has FIV, which is the feline equivalent to HIV. She also tested positive for several other things; however, since she has FIV it could cause false-positives on other things. The vet said that our kitty could have several more years of good life left, as there's a cat that lives at the vet's office that is also FIV+ and that there are also meds and such we can give her. So, we're hopeful that the life our kitty has left will be comfortable. We just have to get her over this infection and take it from there. Hopefully the stronger antibiotic will help.
